President Report - January 2023

ASCE Utah January Newsletter

Recap of Recent Events

Happy New Year! The ASCE Utah YMF is looking forward to a new start and continued involvement. We held a planning meeting this December and discussed lots of events and volunteer opportunities. Be sure to stay up to date by following us on LinkedIn!

We’re grateful for all our volunteers, especially those that dedicate extra time to serve on the YMF board. Allison Valencia has served as our President Elect the last 6 months but has stepped down due to scheduling conflicts. We are in search of a new President Elect to help plan the upcoming Spring PE Review and assume the presidency in the summer, so if you or anyone you know may be interested please submit a nomination to asceutahymf@gmail.com!

In January we will combine with the Structural Engineering Association of Utah for a joint lecture on Earthquake Code. We will meet at Ensign Engineering (45 W Sego Lily Dr, 5th floor) for pizza and discussion from 7:00-8:30 pm. We hope to see you all there! RSVP for the SEAU Lecture here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1VKNVYC6jHUwWkhyTS8WzG5ow4Z8KOPMUDC6gc8HCGLw/edit

WRYMC 2023 is coming up in Orange County, CA in February. Our Past President Taylor Hall will be attending to pass the gavel on to the ASCE Orange County YMF. ASCE National has requested that the Utah YMF relinquish the opportunity to host the 2024 WRYMC, so next year we will be preparing to visit Seattle Washington instead of hosting in SLC. While we were reluctant to relinquish this opportunity we are excited that the Seattle YMF will get their chance to experience the rewarding challenge of hosting this event.

We’re looking forward to a great 2023!

Anna Roberts, E.I.T.

ASCE Utah YMF, President
